History

Tropical Cyclone Billy formed on 11 March 2022 from Tropical Low 27U, which developed south of Java. The system quickly organised and developed an inner core before being named Billy by the Australian Bureau of Meteorology. It was part of the 2021–22 Australian region cyclone season, a season that saw ten tropical cyclones form overall, two of which reached severe tropical cyclone status. Billy remained out to sea throughout its existence and did not make landfall. The system ultimately succumbed to high wind shear, which prevented it from reaching significant intensity before dissipating. No casualties or major damage were associated with the cyclone as a result of its offshore track.
