History

Tropical Cyclone Nicky developed on 8 March 2004 in the western part of the Australian cyclone region, the area monitored by the Bureau of Meteorology's Perth Tropical Cyclone Warning Centre. It was one of the shorter-lived named systems of its season within Australian waters, remaining offshore throughout its time in the region.

Nicky tracked generally westward and, on 10 March, passed beyond the western boundary of the Australian region. On leaving Australian responsibility it came under the monitoring of the neighbouring South-West Indian Ocean warning centre and was consequently renamed Helma, with the system subsequently being referred to as Nicky–Helma in Australian records.

Because the cyclone stayed well away from the Australian coastline, it did not make landfall in the region and no coastal impacts were associated with it during the two days it was tracked as Nicky.
