History
Severe Tropical Cyclone Pancho developed on 23 March 2008 to the south of Christmas Island in the eastern Indian Ocean, with the Bureau of Meteorology's Tropical Cyclone Warning Centre in Perth formally naming the system on 25 March. The cyclone intensified as it tracked through the region, ultimately reaching Category 4 status on the Australian scale, with sustained winds of approximately 95 knots (176 km/h), making it one of the more powerful systems of the 2007–08 Australian region cyclone season. The season itself was considered slightly below average in terms of overall activity. Pancho formed relatively late in the cyclone season, during the latter part of March, and was one of the final significant systems to develop before the season wound down in April 2008.
