History

Tropical Cyclone Uriah formed from a tropical low that developed over the Indian Ocean within a monsoon trough on 9 February 2016. The system organised sufficiently to be named Uriah on 13 February, before moving out of the Australian region the following day. Due to its brief time within the Australian region and rapid exit, Uriah had minimal documented impact on land or coastal areas.

Uriah was one of only three named tropical cyclones to develop during the 2015–16 Australian region cyclone season, which was the least active season since reliable records began in 1969. The historically low activity that year was linked to the 2014–16 El Niño event, which displaced tropical systems eastward into the South Pacific basin, as well as a positive Indian Ocean Dipole that cooled waters near Indonesia and suppressed development close to Western Australia. Uriah's formation and quick departure from the region meant it contributed little to the seasonal totals and left no recorded significant impacts on populated areas or infrastructure.
