History

Severe Tropical Cyclone Vivienne was a late-season system that developed during April 1994 as part of the 1993–94 Australian region cyclone season. The cyclone originated from a tropical low that tracked westward across the Timor Sea, intensifying rapidly during the afternoon and night of 5–6 April 1994. It reached its peak intensity as a Category 3 severe tropical cyclone on 8 April while positioned approximately 550 kilometres north-northwest of Broome, Western Australia. At its most intense, the system briefly displayed an eye on satellite imagery.

Shortly after reaching peak strength, Vivienne encountered strong vertical wind shear that quickly degraded the storm's structure, stripping away its upper-level cloud canopy and exposing the low-level circulation. The system then tracked on a generally west-southwest path, remaining well offshore and parallel to the Western Australian coastline throughout its lifespan. It continued to weaken steadily before dissipating on approximately 12–13 April 1994.

Vivienne made no landfall, and no watches or warnings were issued for coastal communities. There were no reported casualties or structural damage onshore. Maritime interests in the North West Shelf and Kimberley shipping lanes were temporarily affected by heavy swells and localised gales near the storm's peak, but overall the cyclone's impacts were negligible due to its entirely offshore track.
